Larry Hansen – ECA-Arizona, Inc. Board of Directors President
Larry Hansen has worked in the banking industry for several years before becoming a teacher. He has taught grades 7-12 in the public schools as well as teaching at several 4 year universities. Larry has a Master’s Degree in Ed. Leadership, Psychology and History with the most recent from the University of Nebraska Kearney.
Larry has taught Social Studies, English and Government at the high school level and a variety of courses at the community college and universities. He has implemented curriculum in several school districts in the Social Studies field. Larry has been a child advocate for special needs children for over ten years working with students, parents and school districts implementing IEP’s and 504 plans to help students mainstream into a classroom setting.
Sheryl Berling-Wolff – ECA-Arizona, Inc. Board of Directors Treasurer
Sheryl Berling-Wolff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from U.C., Berkeley and a Master’s degree in Plant Biology from Arizona State University. She currently works as a Library Assistant at ITT Tech Tempe providing tutoring in IT and networking, math, physics, statistics, software development and Microsoft Office products. She also coordinates student internships and work experience. Prior experience at ITT Tech includes teaching college math and environmental science.
Ms. Berling-Wolff taught computer electives at the Learning Foundation and Performing Arts Charter School in Gilbert and 7th and 8th grade math at Horizon Community Learning Center in Phoenix. She holds an AZ secondary education teaching certificate with endorsements in mathematics, general science, computer science and SEI.
K.R. Scott – ECA-Arizona, Inc. Board of Directors member
K.R. Scott has more than 25 year’s educational experience in the fields of higher and secondary education with endorsements in Gifted Education and Career and Technical Education. K.R. has taught at the university, community college, and high school levels in the social sciences, specializing in History and Political Science. K.R. is certified as a secondary teacher and a community college instructor as well as having served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Arizona State University. He has developed and taught on-line and blended courses and served as Dual Credit instructor teaching community college classes in high school. He also has helped develop integrated district teacher training workshops using Brain Research, Multiple Intelligences, Differentiated Instruction, and Critical Thinking.
As in his 20 years as a high school teacher at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, Arizona, K.R. coached and sponsored many clubs and activities including Academic Decathlon teams, We the People Constitution Competition teams, National Honor Society, Youth in Government, the TOTEM Center (the campus Peer Tutoring program), Teen Court, and Future teachers of America, and Pride’s Peak (the campus gifted organization).
Prior to becoming an educator, K.R served as an Army officer specializing in petroleum logistics including acquisition, storage, delivery, accounting, and quality assurance operations. In his 11 years on active duty, K.R. was assigned to Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Lee, VA, and as an ROTC instructor and repeatedly was assigned duties in the Middle East, culminating with Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Desert Calm. He served in staff positions at battalion and theater army level and command positions at the platoon, company, and battalion levels.
K.R. retired from teaching and has since become an Educational Consultant specializing in working with gifted students for personal, career and college planning. He also volunteers as 4th Regional Coordinator for the Arizona Academic Decathlon.
K.R. has received many awards and decorations through his professional life. As an educator, he was selected as a semi-finalist for Arizona Teacher of the Year, recognized as a distinguished educator by Princeton University, recognized as Outstanding Faculty by Rio Salado Community College, and has received several district and campus level teaching awards. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation and Achievement Medals, the Humanitarian Service, The Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and the Multinational Forces and Observers Medal.
Rafael Cruz Jr., MA – ECA-Arizona, Inc. Board of Directors member
Rafael has nearly 35 years of experience in the field of Information Systems Technology. For more than 21 years, he has specialized in the area of Distributed Computing and Desktop Engineering. He started his career with General Telephone Electronic (GTE) in Phoenix Arizona as an intern. He is currently working as an Information Systems Engineer at Charles Schwab in Phoenix Arizona.Rafael earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Administration from Saint Leo University, Fort Lee Virginia campus and a Master’s In Business and Organizational Security management from Webster University, Luke Air Force Base, in Glendale, Arizona.Before starting his career in Information Systems Technology. Rafael served twenty three years in the Arizona Army National Guard. He served as a Supervisor of a computer CERT Team, responsible for identifying internet security vulnerabilities, implementing changes to the network systems. Rafael also served as Senior TAC NCO at the Army Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia after twenty seven years of military service.
